Ineco's commercial director, Víctor Bustos, and the Ineco's South America office commercial Deputy Directorate, Rebeca Fernández, together with representatives of Adif and Renfe, took part in a meeting at the Colombian Embassy in Spain with a delegation from the Government of Boyacá. In this meeting, the governor of Boyacá, Carlos Amaya, and the executive president of ProBoyacá, Gheidy Gallo, presented the main railway investment projects in the region.

The Boyacá region is Colombia's ninth largest economy and plans to modernise the freight rail corridor connecting Bogotá with Belencito, a small town north of Sogamoso, the department's second city. Belencito is known for its important iron and coal deposits, as well as its important steel industry.

Ineco started its activity in Colombia in the 1980s with the feasibility study for a mass transit system in Bogotá and as a consultant to the National Railways. Since then, it has developed more than 50 projects in the country. The company is currently carrying out a feasibility study for the development of the Medellín-Bogota railway through the Aburrá Valley. In addition, Ineco has participated in key projects, such as the modernisation of the MAN trains for the Medellín Metro, being responsible for the monitoring, control and inspection of the design, construction and commissioning of the rolling stock. It has also contributed to the master plans for the Simón Bolívar airport in Santa Marta and the Germán Olano airport in Puerto Carreño.
