Ineco has developed the Energy Efficiency Strategy for the State Road Network.
On this World Environment Day, Ineco is committed to a more sustainable and resilient future. Biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation are key pillars for transport infrastructure that not only serves humanity, but also respects and protects our planet.
A commitment that is reflected in the development of the Energy Efficiency Strategy for the State Road Network that Ineco has carried out for the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility. A project that will reduce the grid's electricity consumption and emissions by 50% and for which we are also currently working on the implementation plan.
Among the actions planned to be carried out are the modernisation of the current road lighting system, both in tunnels and in the open air, from high-pressure sodium vapour luminaires (HPV) to LED lighting. The project also includes the introduction of intelligent lighting management systems that allow the lighting to be regulated according to the presence or absence of vehicles and people or climatic parameters. These measures will lead to an estimated energy saving of 50-80%. The annual electricity consumption of the road network amounts to 146 GWh/year, 73% of which corresponds to tunnels, which represents a bill of between 30 and 40 million euros per year. There will also be a commitment to renewing the General Directorate of Roads' own fleet of vehicles with the aim that by 2030, 55% of the fleet will be electric or hybrid.
These measures will achieve savings equivalent to the annual energy consumption of more than 65,000 households and a reduction in emissions similar to those generated by 30,000 vehicles per year.
Ineco currently has around 200 professionals working in different specialities related to sustainability and the environment, such as decarbonisation and air quality, adaptation to climate change, energy efficiency, noise pollution, environmental assessment and integration, management and quality systems or environmental works management and consultancy.
