On this day, Esther Durán, Consulting, Environment and IT manager, presented a paper on the economic perspective of transport and mobility.
This is one of the data extracted from the new annual report of the Spanish Transport and Logistics Observatory (OTLE) on the transport situation in Spain in 2022, presented at its annual conference, inaugurated by the Secretary General for Sustainable Mobility, Álvaro Fernández.
After the sharp decline in mobility in 2020, due to the COVID-19 health crisis, both domestic and international passenger and freight transport have shown a gradual recovery that was evident in 2022, albeit with significant variations depending on the scope and segment. This recovery means an increase in the sector's gross value added (GVA) by 21.1 % in constant 2015 euros, surpassing pre-pandemic levels and recovering its share of the national economy to 4.4 % of GDP in 2022.
In addition, the report also highlights that international freight transport in 2022 was 1.0 % higher than the tonnage recorded in 2019. In terms of passenger transport, a total of 3.91 billion journeys were made by public transport modes in urban and metropolitan areas in 2022, +25.5% more than in 2021. In relation to the use of renewable energies, there has been a gradual increase in the use of this type of sources, which has increased notably in recent years, reaching a share of 9.2% in Spain in 2021, exceeding for the first time the European average (9.1%).
Significant participation of Ineco
Since 2013, an Ineco technical team has been providing support in the definition, maintenance and updating of the OTLE database, as well as in the design and calculation of a battery of indicators to obtain a cross-cutting and multimodal view of the transport system and in the drafting of the Observatory's annual and monographic reports.
OTLE is intended to be a reference framework for consultation, analysis and decision making by transport stakeholders. All updated information and presentations used at the conference are available on its website, including the OTLE annual report 2023.
