Magdalena Garrigós, during her lecture
Magdalena Garrigós, expert in Business Planning, participated on behalf of Ineco in the closing event of the Galileo Information Centre for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Since 2020, experts from our company have been collaborating with Telespazio Ibérica, leader of the winning consortium, in the development of the activities of this centre, which has supported the entire Central American and Caribbean region, and which will end its activity at the end of this year. In recent years, Ineco has also participated in the Galileo Information Centre in Brazil as part of the main consortium.
The Galileo Information Centre for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean is a project funded by the European Commission, with the aim of raising awareness of the Galileo system in this region. During these three years of work, an intense dissemination effort has been carried out through numerous webinars, round tables, sectoral working groups, training sessions, hackathons, and direct advice to companies, universities and local space agencies.
Currently, Ineco also collaborates in multiple national and international projects related to satellite navigation and is present in the European GNSS Service Centre in Madrid, being the company in charge of the operation, first level maintenance and management of the Hosting services. Galileo is the European satellite navigation system developed by the European Union together with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Space Programme Agency (EUSPA). A global system that provides the European Union and the rest of the world with an autonomous system independent of the American GPS, the Russian GLONASS and the Chinese BEIDOU. Since 2016, Galileo has been providing highly accurate positioning, navigation and timing signals, openly and free of charge, with no limit to the number of users and ensuring that the signals are available anywhere in the world in real time. Ineco is also part of the SpaceOpal GmbH industrial consortium as a Core Team Member. This consortium is the prime contractor of the European Space Programme Agency (EUSPA) for the operation and maintenance of the Galileo system until the end of 2026.
A discussion session
During her speech at the closing ceremony of the Galileo Information Centre for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, Magdalena Garrigós highlighted the use of Galileo to boost rail transport: "Satellite navigation contributes to improve efficiency in activities such as operations, fleet and asset management, control systems, signalling and driving assistance. Furthermore, its application will also contribute to the improvement of maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks, facilitating the inspection of structures through drones, which contributes to the safety of personnel on the road. This technology will also act as an enabler for more comprehensive user services, e.g. arrival and departure related services. She also highlighted our participation in the ERSAT GGC project, to evaluate the use of virtual beacons, and RAILGAP, still under development, which aims to calculate a Ground Truth reference of the train's position, calculated by integrating different sensors, including a GNSS receiver.
