Ineco, recognised for its commitment to gender equality

November 8, 2023

The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, received the company most committed to gender equality 2023 award by the Ellas Vuelan Alto Association.
During the presentation, the director of Ellas Vuelan Alto Networks, Eva María López, recognised Ineco's long history of more than 55 years as a benchmark not only in sustainable mobility and digital transformation, but also in the fight for diversity and equal opportunities, promoting respectful and safe workspaces for all people to develop their talent without any kind of prejudice or stereotype. She also highlighted the commitment of all the people who form part of the organisation and the implementation of transversal programmes that value female talent and leadership

From classrooms to management levels

For his part, Sergio Vázquez Torrón thanked the award and took the opportunity to announce the extension of the Ineco ConCiencia Programme, with the aim of continuing to promote STEAM careers and thus contribute to reducing the existing gender gap in these disciplines. An initiative that reinforces the commitment acquired a year ago with its adhesion to the Steam Alliance of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Since its launch in March this year, nearly 30 talks have already been given to more than 2,000 students from 20 different schools in La Coruña, Ávila, Madrid, Asturias and Valencia.

Ineco's commitment begins in the classroom but extends to the company's management structure. Over the last year and a half, the representation of Ineco's female professionals in the company's management areas has increased by almost 10 points, from less than 30% at the beginning of 2022 to almost 40% today; A figure that equals the representation of women in the global workforce as a whole and which is well above the percentage of women in technical careers (approximately 25%).

In 2023, Ineco has also implemented positive discrimination measures for women in its recruitment and promotion processes, increasing women's pay by 2% compared to men's in both processes. Thus, the gender pay gap has decreased by 0.93 points to 11.98% at the end of October 2023.

A comprehensive plan for real equality

The recognition of Ellas Vuelan Alto highlights the set of actions promoted by Ineco to achieve real equality of opportunities. Among them, the company is already immersed in the fifth edition of its Women IN programme, aimed at promoting the personal and professional development of women with high potential, and which has already empowered 52 Ineco professionals. Women who have also set up the Minerva network, an open, collaborative and voluntary network, to give visibility to Ineco's female talent.

Other actions such as the Horizonte Programme against gender violence, in collaboration with four associations, allow Ineco to fight against violence against women by accompanying them in their access to the world of work. The programme also promotes aid for orphans who are victims of male violence.

A commitment to equality that, at an internal level, is reflected in the Concilia Plan, which serves as a lever to make equality between women and men a reality.  Thanks to its 19 measures, the company promotes the reconciliation of personal, family and working life and co-responsibility, highlighting flexibility in working hours and way of working.
