Sergio Vázquez Torrón has held a meeting with the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen
Ineco participated in Conama 2024, the National Environmental Congress, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and the fight against climate change. This event, held from December 2 to 5 in Madrid, is one of the most significant environmental gatherings in Spain.
The president of Ineco played a leading role in the opening plenary session, "A turning point for adaptation to climate change", which reflected on the urgent need to prioritise adaptation to climate change. In his speech, Sergio Vázquez Torrón stressed that: "It is important to convey to the public the tangible consequences of climate change and to have the intellectual humility to understand the population's resistance to changing habits. This way, we can create incentives that promote social transformation". He added: "Transport has to reduce its emissions at a faster pace. The whole transport cycle has to be analysed; the construction of infrastructure has a relevant impact on the carbon footprint that has to be taken into account when comparing the climate impact of transport modes". He also pointed out that: "it is impossible to guarantee the total resistance of infrastructures to extreme weather events, however, recently built infrastructures have a fairly acceptable level of resilience".
Innovation and sustainability at the Ineco stand
Sergio Vázquez Torrón has held a meeting with the Minister for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, in which she showed interest in our innovative integrated approach to calculating emissions. A proposal that includes emissions from the entire life cycle of the infrastructure, from construction to decommissioning, as well as cumulative emissions over its lifetime. With this approach, Ineco enhances discussion on the sustainability of transport, providing more complete data to identify the phases of the life cycle where strategies to reduce emissions can be implemented.
During this event, Ineco also had several representatives in the technical sessions. Celestino Rodríguez, Corporate Coordination Executive Director, presented a paper on the challenges of integrated territorial development in rural Spain, in which he highlighted the Ineco Ruraltic initiative for the digitalisation of small municipalities.
Cristina Oter, Climate Change and Energy Transition technician, participated in the session 'Climate risk assessment and adaptation of infrastructures to climate change', to reflect on how infrastructures should adapt to the challenges of climate change.
For her part, Mª Carmen Prado, Climate Change and Energy Transition technician, presented the new regulations that will be key to achieving transformative energy efficiency at the round table 'Energy efficiency first: What's new in the new directive, the new regulations that will be key to achieving transformative energy efficiency. Finally, Jorge Arévalo, Environment and Territory Manager, explained how cities can reconnect with nature in the round table 'Renaturalisation of Cities'.
With its outstanding participation in Conama 2024, Ineco has reaffirmed its position as a leader in the development of sustainable and innovative solutions in the field of infrastructures and transport. This commitment was reflected both in the intervention of its president and in the tools and proposals presented, consolidating its role as a key player in moving towards a more sustainable future.
