Ineco takes part in the ambitious Australian high-speed rail project to participate in the feasibility study of the line between Sydney and Newcastle.

As the main subcontractor of the consortium in charge of the study, formed by ARCADIS and WSP, Ineco will provide advice on railway systems, including telecommunications, signalling, energy and rolling stock or parking and maintenance facilities and railway operation.

It is the main lot of the eight that the High-Speed Rail Authority of Australia (HSRA) put up for tender in last March to develop the preliminary studies that will allow it to advance in its future high-speed network. Ineco has a presence in Australia through the contract for the modernisation of the Sydney suburban rail network. As a System Integrator, the Spanish engineering company is responsible for supporting the national authority in the definition, integration and implementation of new railway systems for the network. This is a key role in
increasing its capacity to absorb future demand.

The new contract promotes the presence and representativeness of Spanish engineering on the international stage, reinforcing its role as a driving force in the Spanish sector, where it currently collaborates with more than 20 Spanish companies in the development of around one hundred projects on five continents. Ineco employs around 6,000 professionals worldwide, covering more than 250 technical disciplines.

Australia bets on the Spanish experience

The Australian government has allocated 78.8 million dollars to implement these studies between Sydney and Newcastle as part of the 500 million dollars announced for the planning of the progress of the future high-speed network.

The country aims to position its new high-speed network as a more effective way to connect regional and urban communities, fuel economic growth and housing affordability, productivity and access to services, providing sustainable travel alternatives to reduce transport emissions and road congestion.

For its development, Australia is looking for a business network with extensive knowledge and experience, such as the one acquired by the Spanish companies in a high-speed model that is a reference in the world. The extensive 4,000 km network has enabled Spain to develop one of the most efficient, modern and advanced high-speed railways in the world.

In terms of technology, the country is a leader in railway R&D, thanks to its commitment to innovation in infrastructure, signalling, electrification and rolling stock.
This experience has significantly increased the competitiveness and internationalisation of Spanish railway companies worldwide.
