At the Global Mobility Call, Ineco presented the main conclusions of its new report "Mobility in transformation. Standpoints" on the evolution of mobility patterns over the last five years, considering the effects of the pandemic. An in-depth analysis that aims to be useful in detecting changes in our mobility, focusing on the ageing of the population, the expansion of remote working, social changes and their relationship with car ownership, as well as technological and fare innovations that favour other forms of mobility.

The work, developed by a multidisciplinary team from Ineco, highlights the fundamental role that public transport plays in the progress of society, and raises the factors to be taken into account in the design of public policies aimed at promoting a healthy, safe and sustainable mobility model.

Demand and supply levels for public transport are currently higher than they were in 2019 across the board, in virtually all modes and areas of mobility. The public sector has a key role to play in promoting the role of public transport in mobility. In the long term, as the only actor able to plan and create an appropriate institutional framework for such a large and complex area as the transport system. In the short term, as the body capable of guaranteeing the continuity of the sector in such adverse conditions as a pandemic or a global economic crisis.

Transforming mobility for the future

During the opening day, the President of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, participated in an institutional round table that explored the structuring role of the Public Sector and State companies in the development of critical infrastructures to provide a solution to the new needs of sustainable, safe and connected mobility for people and goods. Accompanied by the presidents of Adif, Renfe, Aena and Puertos del Estado, Sergio Vázquez Torrón stressed: "the most important thing is to know our weak points and identify in the infrastructures those areas most vulnerable to climate change and its adverse effects, which can already be seen, they are a reality".

Global Mobilty Call has established itself, in its third edition, as one of the main events dedicated to sustainable mobility. World leaders, senior institutional representatives, business executives, experts and entrepreneurs have contributed to the outcome of this event that seeks to achieve the development of more efficient, clean and liveable cities.
