Ineco continues with the modernisation work that will give 42 Medellín Metro trains more than 20 years of useful life. With more than 75% of the order already completed, 32 units have undergone improvements such as the change of the traction chain, migrating to the latest DC/AC technology. Also, the replacement of the current auxiliary energy supply system and the air production system with new, more energy-efficient equipment and a higher level of redundancy, as well as the adaptation of the design of the units to a more modern image, among others.

During the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Metro de Medellín, in 2020, the first of the 42 units that the Colombian company is modernising with CAF as railway technologist was presented, under the supervision of Ineco and its local partner Integral, and which will entail a complete internal and external renovation of the trains, for half the cost of buying new units. These first-generation vehicles entered service in 1995 and were already nearing the end of their service life.

The Medellín Metro train modernisation project was awarded by the Antioquian Society of Engineers and Architects (SAI) as one of the most relevant projects in Antioquian engineering in 2021.

Since 2011, Ineco has also been collaborating with Metro de Medellín in the renewal of its fleet, supervising the design, manufacture, reception and commissioning of the new CAF trains, including the on-board signalling equipment (ATC). Solutions that the company is also developing in other parts of the world such as Spain, Kenya, Ecuador and Chile, among others.
