The cooperation and exchange of experiences in railway development between Spain and Latin America has been the protagonist of the meeting ‘El ferrocarril del siglo XXI' (The 21st Century Railway') organised by Ineco, CAF (development bank of Latin America), and ICEX.
The conference, a meeting point for experts, public representatives, private companies and financial institutions, was attended by leading authorities from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Spain.
The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, closed the meeting by saying: "I welcome the initiatives of Latin American countries that are betting on this means of transport. Relaunching the railway in Latin America is the best bet the region can make. The railway is more than a means of transport: it is a generator of community, an expression of civilisation and common good, as opposed to individualistic solutions, the railway builds society".
On the other hand, Ainhoa Zubieta, International Business General Director, moderated a round table dedicated to lessons and challenges to design, build and operate railway projects with the participation of Casimiro Iglesias, General Director of Railway Planning and Evaluation of Mitma, Fernando Nicolás, International Director of Adif, Álvaro Simões da Conceição, Director of the Railway Concessions Department of the National Secretariat of Railway Transport of Brazil, Diego Marín, Executive Director of Concessions at Acciona and Juan Matías Archilla, International Business Area Manager at Renfe.
The meeting, which took place this Tuesday, is part of the collaboration conferences between Spain and Latin America, which aim to generate a space for strategic collaboration and synergy between the different players of the railway sector.
