Virtual reality advances the future of airports

March 14, 2023

Ineco participates in the most important international event in the airport terminal sector, Passenger Terminal 2023, which is being held from March 14 to 16 in Amsterdam. A meeting that brings together more than 400 exhibitors and more than 300 speakers from over 130 countries.

The company has a stand where it shows the possibilities offered by virtual reality in airport design. The virtualisation of the real world based on BIM models and their integration with technologies such as IoT or AI, allow interaction between the real and virtual worlds that provide high-level technological solutions for clients and users. Thanks to the application of this kind of immersive technology, it is possible to improve not only the user experience but also the services and processes of airport managers. Pre-travelling to save time and safety, as well as to identify points of interest. Analysing alternatives in the project planning phase to facilitate decision-making or optimising processes and protocols at airports are just some of the advantages that virtual reality offers in this field.

"To create these virtual environments, Ineco's teams begin with the development of BIM models, which subsequently evolve into digital twins thanks to the use of technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things) or AI (Artificial Intelligence), thus enabling integration and interaction between the real world and the digital world. This virtualisation of the real world allows us to offer solutions with a high technological added value", emphasised Roberto San Miguel, expert of BIM Management.

Ineco, as an expert organisation in transport engineering and consultancy, also presented its comprehensive range of services, which covers the entire life cycle of projects, and its most relevant references, such as its current participation in the new terminal at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, the comprehensive management of Kuwait International Airport, and the design work for the new Kasteli airport on the island of Crete (Greece).

With an expected attendance of more than 10,000, this event brings together all the players in the airport sector (managers, manufacturers, airlines, service companies, associations) each year in a different European city, to share visions and experiences of next-generation airports.
