Interview with... María Roa
María Roa works in the analysis, study and processing of contractual resolutions and although it may seem "boring", as she says, her work has a lot to do with what she likes to do most in life: reading and writing. All this passion materialised one day in "Cuentos para Emma" ( Tales for Emma), a book of children's stories she wrote based on the adventures of her own daughter.
Name
Maria
But... how do they use to call you at home?
Maria, Mary, Mum...
What do you do at Ineco?
I work for the Coordination General Deputy Directorate of the General Directorate for Roads of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. My work involves the analysis, study, drafting and processing of the contractual resolutions in the Ministry, and this, in application of the administrative regulations in force.
When did you join the company?
Two years ago. Someone who worked there told me about the experience and encouraged me to apply when a job offer came up fitting with my profile. I was fortunate that this offer came up and, after the relevant tests, the Ineco team chose me.
Last summer you have published a book of children's stories. What is it about?
The adventures of Emma, a greatly imaginative little girl who is able to facing new challenges every day in the most surprising and amusing way. Each challenge leads to a story full of magic: From picking up toys, getting out of the bathtub or going to bed.
How did the idea of writing "Cuentos para Emma" come about?
When I was writing these stories I could not have imagined that one day they would materialise in a book. It is so much simple than that: As my daughter Emma grew up, she was faced with certain situations that, with a little imagination, could be explained in a more entertaining way. So, when my daughter went to sleep, I would prepare my notebook and my coloured pencils and sketch characters, situations and little texts that I would then read to her.
Some time later, when at my family's insistence, we sent the drafts to Eolas Ediciones and the project became what it is today. In the book layout, they kept my drawings and gave them certain textures to make it a very attractive instrument for children, but their essence has been maintained.
What does your hobby of writing bring to your personal and professional life?
Reading and writing are two of my great passions. I believe that both hobbies are essential for the development of the person in different facets. That is why I have interest in instilling in my children, and in the children who participate in my storytelling, a love of literature.
What would you highlight about the company?
Being a company of the magnitude and prestige that Ineco enjoys, it should keep its commitment to each of its employees by supporting them beyond their professional field.
