Expansion and improvement works in the station to optimise the railway and commercial exploitation, and reorganise the interior space according to new requirements.
Sants station is Spain´s second most important railway station after Atocha (Madrid) in terms of passenger numbers. It moves around 30 million passengers per year, of which 18m are users of lines R1, R2, R3 and R4 of the Barcelona overground commuter train network.After years of waiting the high speed connection between Madrid and Barcelona entered into service and the works for extension of the station began. The complex required a radical overhaul and modernisation consistent with the arrival of the AVE. Ineco has wide experience and recognised prestige in projects of this type and was entrusted with management of the works. The structure of the station underwent various modifications to upgrade the interior according to the new needs.
