Responsible for the follow up, control and inspection of the construction and commissioning of the new fleet at Medellín metro.
The Medellín Metro upgraded its rolling stock with 12 new three-car units manufactured in Spain by CAF. Ineco is responsible for the monitoring, control and inspection of the construction and commissioning of the new light rail vehicles.Medellín has more than 2.5 million inhabitants and is the second biggest city in Colombia after the capital Bogotá. The city is located in a rugged mountainous area 1,300 metres above sea level. In 2004 it became the first city in the world to have aerial cable car lines (Metrocable) as public a transport system.The metro system transports more than 150 million passengers per annum. It has 32 stations, 25 for the light rail system and the rest for the Metrocable.
Technical information
The new fleet will be provided with cutting-edge technology, optimal safety features, capacity for 1,145 passengers, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h and four doors on each side.
With this renovation of its fleet Medellín will have a metro system in line with the pace of development that the region is experiencing.
