With its 14.4 million inhabitants and a difficult landscape, criss-crossed by the Andean mountain ranges, Ecuador faces the challenge of bringing about an economic upturn by making best use of its wealth of natural resources. Aware of the shortcomings of its current infrastructures, Ecuador’s Ministry of Transport and Public Works plans to modernise its entire transport network from 2013-2037. Ineco has drafted a National Strategic Mobility and Transport Plan (PEM in Ecuador), which covers the whole country and all its modes of transport, with a view to developing the transport system in a balanced and efficient manner.
The Plan has been designed as a guide for developing the transport system by 2037, which is the target date set by Ineco’s experts to gauge the overall needs of infrastructures, their cost and implementation periods. The plan will assist Ecuador in achieving an integral, comprehensive, connected and multimodal transport system, which will be flexible and commensurate with the country’s economic development.
