Vicente del Bosque returns to the pitch for a day to raise funds for the fight against childhood leukaemia.

September 15, 2023

The fight against childhood leukaemia has united Vicente del Bosque and the engineering and consultancy firm of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, Ineco, in a solidarity and sporting initiative.

Under the name "Métele un gol a la leucemia" (Score a goal against leukaemia), Ineco's professionals, accompanied by the smaller ones, took part in a day where, symbolically, for each goal, funds were donated to research into childhood lymphoblastic leukaemia led by the José Carreras Foundation.

A family afternoon held at the Canal de Isabel II sports facilities in Madrid, which was joined by athletes with intellectual disabilities from the organisation Envera-Association of Iberia Employees and Parents of People with Disabilities. Accompanied by Envera's General Manager, Enrique Grande, the organisation's Director of Communication and Institutional Relations, Virginia Ródenas, said: "it is an honour to be able to participate in this initiative and a joy to be accompanied by our sports ambassador, Vicente del Bosque".

The former coach of the Spanish men's national football team, with which he became European and world champion, has once again taken charge of a team, on this occasion in a spirit of solidarity and diversity. Del Bosque stressed that "Ineco is a company that is committed to this type of cause and we cannot be insensitive to it".
For his part, the president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, wanted to highlight the solidarity with which the Ineco team always responds to all social events: "this type of initiative is part of our way of being. We are a company with a soul capable of making social appeals for the things that really matter".

With this initiative, around 200 people scored goals today in order to contribute to the research into this disease that the José Carreras Foundation is carrying out in various fields. Specifically, with this campaign, Ineco has managed to raise 3,000 euros to further research into childhood lymphoblastic leukaemia. Frank Pérez, from the Foundation's Corporate Alliances department, stressed that "supporting research into childhood leukaemia is very important as two out of every ten children affected do not overcome the disease. For this reason, it is essential to make a firm commitment to research and raise awareness in society".

"Score a goal against leukaemia"  is celebrated on the same day as World Bone Marrow Donor Day, a date chosen to raise awareness of the importance of being a donor, a process that begins with a simple blood or saliva sample.

Recognition for the fight against leukaemia

During the event, the José Carreras Foundation recognised Ineco as an unstoppable company for the company's commitment to the fight against leukaemia.

Ineco and the José Carreras Foundation have been collaborating for the last three years to advance leukaemia research and to ensure that, one day, this disease will be 100% curable. In addition, this initiative is a way of raising awareness of World Bone Marrow Donor Day and stressing the importance of becoming a donor, a process that begins with a simple blood or saliva sample. 5,000 new cases of leukaemia are diagnosed every year in Spain, with many of those affected needing a bone marrow transplant to overcome the disease. 3 out of 4 patients will not have a matched family member and unrelated donor transplantation is the only curative solution for a large proportion of leukaemia patients. The José Carreras Foundation is the manager of the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (REDMO in Spanish) by designation of the Ministry of Health.
