El Prat is consolidated as an important European hub
Barcelona-El Prat airport is a key part of the Catalan business and economic sector, and has the second highest traffic in Spain after Madrid-Barajas airport. Faced with the growing air traffic demand, Plan Barcelona was carried out and allowed the modernisation of the airport through the construction of a new terminal area and other airport infrastructures, and the expansion of the airfield with a new runway.
The ultimate object of this transformation was to consolidate Barcelona-El Prat as an important European hub, increasing its national and international connections.
