The Moroccan National Airports Office (ONDA) has selected Ineco to draw up a Development Programme for the aeronautical and terminal infrastructure of Mohamed V Casablanca International Airport, which identifies the current problems and defines the dimensioning and design of the infrastructure required to handle traffic in the future.

The president of Ineco, Sergio Vázquez Torrón,  to launch this project, held a meeting on Tuesday with the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Mohamed Abdeljalil, and representatives of the main Moroccan mobility operators. Sergio Vázquez Torrón, stressed that "Morocco is going to give a boost to its transport infrastructure system and its relations with Spain are at a good moment, so this is a promising stage for Spanish engineering and construction companies in a country in which French companies traditionally had a majority position in the market. With this project we are strengthening our leadership as airport planners. The key value we have contributed to the transformation of the airport network in Spain, as well as the development of master plans in Colombia, Mexico, Greece and Cape Verde, represent an experience that positions Spanish engineering in the place it deserves".

With a 2040 and 2050 horizon, the development plan will include passenger traffic, baggage and aircraft movement forecasts. Also, an assessment of the airport's current capacities and measures for their optimisation, as well as development scenarios, identification of current and future needs in terms of road and rail connectivity, and phasing of expansion works.

Our company already has experience in this airport, having carried out a similar project for its expansion. Ineco was also responsible for carrying out the project to study, analyse and reorganise Morocco's airspace in order to develop a new air navigation system.

About the airport

Located in Nouasseur, 30 kilometres southeast of Casablanca, Mohamed V International Airport is Morocco's largest airport, accounting for more than 36% of domestic air traffic and welcoming around 9.8 million passengers in 2023, an increase of 28% compared to the previous year. ONDA and the Moroccan government also have investment plans for the airports of Agadir, Marrakech, Tangier and Rabat-Salé, which have been accelerated by the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

An experience exported all over the world

To carry out this project in Morocco, the company has a multidisciplinary and diverse team made up of professionals with expertise in different specialities such as terminal design, business development, drafting of railway accesses and roads or design of baggage systems or moving sidewalks.

Ineco has played a key role throughout the process of modernising and improving Spanish airports, participating in the development of the master plans for the entire network: Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga-Costa del Sol and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, among others. This experience in airport infrastructure and air navigation systems has been exported to many airports in countries such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Colombia, Mexico, Jamaica, Cape Verde and Greece.
