The Moroccan railway authority (ONCF) has once again entrusted the consortium formed by Ineco and the local engineering company CID to carry out the preliminary project for the railway service between the cities of Oued Zem and Beni Mellal, in the centre of the country. This is the third contract that the company has been awarded in 2024 in the region, making Morocco the country with the highest volume of new contracts so far this year with €2,275,000.

As part of Morocco's 2040 railway strategy, the new work includes the widening and rectification of approximately 40 kilometres between Khouribga and Oued Zem, studies for the elimination of level crossings on approximately 120 km between Sidi el Aidi and Oued Zem and the development of a new route between Oued Zem and Beni Mellal of approximately 60 km.

This is the second contract awarded to the Ineco-CID consortium, as a result of the collaboration framework they maintain in the digitalisation of public administration, high speed, urban mobility and the development of the airport network in Morocco, as well as in other African countries. Ineco's President, Sergio Vázquez Torrón, visited the country in November 2023 and consolidated the collaboration framework in the areas of digitalisation of public administration, high speed, urban mobility and development of the airport network in Morocco, as well as in other countries on the African continent.

Trustmark for Moroccan Mobility Development

Morocco plans to expand the high-speed rail network from 320 to more than 1,280 kilometres over the next 16 years. It is expected that 87% of the national population will benefit from this upgraded network, compared to 51% today. In addition, 12 ports and 15 international airports will be connected.

With this new contract, Ineco has become a reference partner for the Moroccan government, which has recently entrusted the Spanish engineering and public consultancy firm to carry out, also in collaboration with CID, the feasibility and preliminary design studies for the urban rail service to Tangiers and Tetouan. The project includes four key actions, which together represent over 85 kilometers of new railway track aimed at increasing the capacity for passenger circulation in medium-distance segments. This project was the largest contract in the company's history in Morocco.

This contract for Spanish public engineering has meant the successful export of our country's railway model and boosts opportunities for the Spanish business fabric in this country.

Previously, the Moroccan National Airports Office (ONDA) had also selected Ineco to draw up an aeronautical and terminal infrastructure development programme for Mohamed V Casablanca International Airport, which identifies the current problems and defines the sizing and design of the infrastructures required to handle traffic in the future.
