Meeting with the specialists of the Chips Innovation Centre project in Malaga
Ineco, the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT) and IMEC have organised in Malaga the kick-off meeting of the basic project for the construction of the first Chip Innovation Centre in Spain, a key infrastructure for the development of microelectronics in the country. This technical meeting, held at the Andalusia Technology Park in Malaga, brought together 40 specialists from various administrations and entities involved, including the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Administration, Malaga City Council and IMEC, a world reference in research and innovation hub in nanoelectronics and digital technologies.
During the meeting they worked together on the general technical aspects of the project affecting urban planning, architecture and infrastructures, heritage, environment and landscaping, making progress on the key aspects of the design and planning of the future centre, which will allow the tendering and subsequent execution of the project.
A pioneering centre in Europe, a growth engine for the technology sector
SETT, in its role as the driving force behind technological transformation in Spain, has entrusted our company with the integral management of the project. Ineco provides technical support in all phases of the process, from the drafting of the basic project to the construction and commissioning of the centre, ensuring the highest standards of quality and innovation. In addition, it will participate in the specification and certification of clean room machinery, as well as in the transfer and design of production processes.
The Malaga Chip Innovation Centre will be IMEC's first facility outside Belgium and the second centre in the world dedicated to the innovation and development of new 300mm chip prototyping processes. Its creation responds to the growing demand for new technologies in sectors such as medicine, photonics, quantum computing and augmented reality. The facility, which will be located in Málaga TechPark on a 46,000 square metre plot, will have 32,000 square metres of buildable space for laboratories and development areas.
This project, within the framework of PERTE Chip, reinforces Spain's commitment to technological sovereignty and the semiconductor industry. The new infrastructure is expected to boost the R&D ecosystem, foster the creation of start-ups and spin-offs, and encourage collaboration with universities and research centres. It is also expected to generate highly qualified employment, with a multidisciplinary team of more than 100 professionals working on the development of the centre.
