The Ineco head office hosted a new edition of the student internship excellence competitions. Promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility Engineering company, the Spanish Institute of Engineering (IIE) and REDFUE, these awards seek to recognise excellence in the process of carrying out business practices in a sector of recognised international prestige, such as engineering.
José Vicente González, who is doing his internship at Airbus D&S, has been the winner of the fourth edition of the Distinctions for Excellence in Engineering Student Internships Competition, thanks to his internship on vision-based navigation. This project has succeeded in developing a landing system to make it easier for pilots to land on unprepared runways. A prototype has also been created with a USB camera that works in real time, which allows the system's operation to be explained in a didactic way.
María Cifuentes was the winner of Ineco's internal competition for her participation in the project on the calibration of radio aids using drones. Ineco has created a proprietary system consisting of various on-board equipment (so that the drone can analyse the radio signal from the radio aid and send the data) and on the ground (receiving station), in addition to the analysis and representation software developed. This project makes safe air navigation possible by providing the necessary positioning and guidance signals to keep aircraft conveniently separated from terrain and obstacles.
Sergio Vázquez Torrón, president of Ineco, was one of those in charge of presenting the awards. In his speech, he underlined the importance of internships in companies, so that "those young people who have the privilege of studying can give back to society a little of what it has given them".
The event was closed by Ángel Contreras, president of Adif, who expressed his satisfaction at seeing that "the railway sector continues to attract the attention of new engineers". He assured all of them that "we also believe -and we are working on it- that it is the strategic axis that is connecting us with the mobility of the future".
Recognition of excellence
With a first prize of 4,000 euros and two prizes of 1,000 euros for second and third place, both competitions highlight projects that have achieved significant and verifiable improvements in processes, products, services and technological innovation.
The finalists include works related to the implementation of new technologies in crop phenotyping, optimisation of the automation of aircraft loading capacity, and the deployment of a GSM network for emergency situations.
Ineco's internal awards, in its case, celebrated their second edition, reflecting the company's holistic spirit. Among the finalists were proposals from graduates in Law, Business Administration and Management or Journalism related to artificial intelligence, ERTMS or the digital transformation of the Administration of Justice.
